The State Tax Inspectorate (VMI) has generated and published the 2026 land tax declarations in the Electronic Declaration System (EDS). Under statutory rules, the annual land tax payment deadline is November 15. Because November 15, 2026 falls on a Sunday, the statutory deadline moves to the next business day – Monday, November 16, 2026.

According to official VMI data, total assessed land tax for 2026 amounts to €65.4 million (up from approximately €61 million in 2025). Over 19,000 legal entities have been assessed €11.7 million, while 817,000 individual landowners account for €53.7 million.

A key driver behind tax increases for specific parcels is the re-registration of surface water body shoreline protection strips completed by the State Enterprise Centre of Registers. Pursuant to Article 8(2)(5) of the Republic of Lithuania Law on Land Tax, land situated within designated shoreline protection strips is fully exempt from land tax. However, on land parcels where protection strips had previously been recorded as identical to broader water protection zones, the Centre of Registers has now aligned the data with actual registered protection strip boundaries. Consequently, the exempt area on these parcels decreased, expanding the taxable land area and increasing the resulting tax liability.

The underlying land valuation base remains unchanged for 2026, as the average market values established for the 2023–2027 five-year valuation cycle remain in effect. Individual tax rates continue to be determined by municipal councils within the statutory bracket of 0.01% to 4% of taxable value.

Corporate accounting departments must review their declarations via EDS or the "Mano VMI" portal to reconcile taxable land areas and applied rates. For parcels bordering water bodies, registered restriction layers can be cross-referenced against the Real Estate Register extract and the spatial cadastral map (REGIA).

Land tax must be remitted to the VMI budget revenue account using payment code 3011. The standard consolidated tax payment code 1001 cannot be used for land tax. Late payments will automatically trigger statutory daily interest starting November 17, 2026.
